DIVINE SLEEPLESSNESS

“Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and tomorrow speak thou unto the King that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the King unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made”.

ON THAT NIGHT could not the King sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.

And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthan and Teresh, two of the King’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the King Ahasuerus.

“And the King said, what honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the King’s servants that ministered unto him, there is nothing do for him”.

Esther 5 : 14, 6 : 1 – 3 (KJV)

Oh, what a perfect God with perfect timing. The timing of man is short sighted, premature, dangerous and counter-productive to his own best interest. God situates His own timing in the context of the whole, entire, total picture which man can never see. As the only one who sees the total picture, He is the only one whose timing is perfect.

On the eve of the day Haman would have had Mordecai killed by hanging on a 50 cubits high gallows, the King could not sleep. Interestingly, Mordecai did not even know his life was in danger. But he was just a few hours from untimely death! Don’t forget Haman got the King to approve the murder of an entire race – millions of Jews all over  his empire (Esther 3 : 8 – 15). Getting approval to eliminate Mordecai therefore was a piece of cake. But on the eve of Mordecai’s elimination, the King could not sleep. Then the strangest thing of all happens.

Instead of the King who is weighted down by a bout of insomnia (sleeplessness) to call for musicians to make sweet music to get him to sleep. Or even call one of the hundreds of the most beautiful women in the world who were in his harem to come give him sleep inducing “care”. This man does the unthinkable. He commands that they bring and read to him, the book of records of the chronicles! He was doing something strange, unreasonable, even weird under divine influence!

The divinely orchestrated DIVINE OMISSION of Esther 2 : 21 – 23, 3 : 1; was about to be reversed by God. Mordecai’s DELAYED honour, reward and promotion was about to happen. It was the perfect time for it. It was what will save his life. So the King orders that they read Kingdom records to him. When God’s time comes, everything begin to fall in place. Those to read the records opened the very book and the very section where the information God wanted the King to recollect was written. Now you must remember that we are talking about a vast Kingdom of 127 Provinces or nations spreading from the Middle East all the way to India in Asia and Ethiopia in Africa. It was a Kingdom that has had several Kings. Consequently, there were thousands of books of records or chronicles that they could read from. But God singled out the very book and the very section where Mordecai’s deed of saving the King’s life was recorded.

Then the King asks what was done to reward this guy who saved my life. And he was told nothing. He is dumbfounded and in a desperate bid to redress the ugly situation he inquires about any senior state official who is around.

At that very moment, Haman who had come to have Mordecai killed arrives. Let’s follow the conversation from scripture.

“And the Kind said, who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the King’s house, to speak unto the King to hang Mordecai on the gallows he had prepared for him.

And the King’s servants said unto him, behold Haman standeth in the court. And the King said let him come in.

So Haman came in and the King said unto him, what shall be done unto the man whom the King delighted to honour.

Now Haman though in his heart, to whom would the King delight to do honour more than to myself.

And Haman answered the King, for the man whom the King delighted to honour, let  the royal apparel be brought which the King useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:

And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the King’s most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the King delighted to honour, and bring him on horseback through the streets of the city, and proclaim before him, thus shall it be done to the man whom the King delighted to honour.

Then the King said to Haman, make haste and take the apparel and the horse, as thou has said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the King’s gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.

Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighted to honour”. Esther 6 : 4 – 11 (KJV, Emphasis mine).

Can  you see how  He makes all things beautiful in His time. Friends, wait for Him. In the six thousand years He has put man on planet earth, He has never been LATE.
